Heiko Windisch is a full-time illustrator and visual artist living and working in Heidelberg, Germany.
“I have been working as an illustrator since 2005, gaining experience as an apparel designer, product illustrator, editorial illustrator and gallery artist. My work on paper and canvas has appeared in shows in Los Angeles, New York, Sydney and Zürich. I have illustrated snowboards for Salomon Sports, a weekly column for Zeit Magazine and made apparel designs for Threadless in Chicago and graniph in Tokyo. In 2008 I was on the short list of the Young Illustrator Award at the Illustrative festival in Zürich – in 2009 I was part of the main exhibition in Berlin.”
I am constantly on the lookout for new challenges and adventures. Starting at my favourite pen-on-paper I’ve ventured over the years into vector design, animation and sculpture – one of my contributions to the 2009 Illustrative was a 4m (~13 ft) tall totem pole. I am focused and love paying attention to detail, without getting lost in it. I aim to make people stop in their tracks and take a closer look, discovering hidden layers and making up their own stories to it. I like intelligent but accessible design.
