Emerson is known for creating solitary elongated figures. For the Shrine series she has made ghostly bodies that appear to float on the surface of the paper. Emerson collaborated with photographer Becky Palmer, staging models in theatrical costumes and ornate headshrines. She used pearls, seashells, antique lace and taxidermy to create sets dripping in decoration. There are six individually hand-finished screen-prints in the series. The screen prints each have a delicate finish of either sawdust or charcoal powder creating a refined and unusual texture. Shrine 1 has been finished with African Mahogany powder.
