Calling all movie buffs! Blister's this year is all about the silver screen. 40 artists were commisioned to produce posters of their favourite films. These include cult classics, golden oldies and films that if you haven't seen them- these will give you a reason to. The posters are a limited edition of 40 handmade silkscreen prints. They had their big red carpet premiere on the 31st of August 2012.
CMYK screenprint by Babycrow, one half of Puck Studio, inspired by The Fifth Element (1997).
Printed onto GFSmith Colorplan Pristine 350gsm.
Babycrow is David Gibbons, an illustrator who specialises in drawing with a brush and ink. He takes inspiration from anti-heroes, Japan, superheroes, giant monsters and comics. He strives to express a lot of energy in his drawings with lightning explosions and plumes of smoke always to hand but also achieves a warm, organic tone to his colouring that makes it a versatile and approachable style.
The Fifth Element captures everything that I love about science fiction with a fantastic sense of scale and imagination. The iconic colours and characters are straight out of a retro French comic book which is something that I attempted to emulate in my print. I am a huge fan of Moebius who contributed storyboard and conceptual designs to the movie so this poster is as much a tribute to him as the movie itself. The design was quite an ambitious six colour print with four colour halftone and a background blur that gives a feeling of vertigo and movement. Big Badda Boom!
